A Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) is a way of visualizing and measuring vegetation on the ground between different periods of time by altering the spectral index of satellite imagery. The 2024 NDVI of Gaza, compared to 2023, reveals significant loss of productive agricultural fields as crops were left fallow/abandoned (from green/light green to yellow). Additionally, there is an increase of bare ground, soil and rock (red to orange) signifying the presence of rubble from destroyed buildings as well as open spaces and productive fields razed by bulldozers.
